A Stockholm studio devoted entirely to barbershop and men's grooming interiors — nothing else.
Underconge Atelier was founded in 2019 when interior architect Elin Forsberg and master barber Marcus Lindqvist recognised a gap in the Swedish market: generalist design firms treated barbershops like hair salons, missing the specific rituals, equipment, and masculine aesthetic that define a great cut.
From our studio at Kungsgatan 44 in central Stockholm, we have completed 47 barbershop projects across Södermalm, Östermalm, Vasastan, Kungsholmen, and suburban centres including Täby, Nacka, and Sundbyberg. Our work ranges from 22 m² single-chair studios to 120 m² multi-station flagships with retail corners.
Scandinavian minimalism is not emptiness — it is intention. Every surface, fixture, and centimetre of circulation space in a barbershop must serve the barber's body mechanics and the client's sense of calm. We reject trend-chasing neon and industrial clichés in favour of timeless palettes: charcoal walls, warm white ceilings, brass hardware, and natural wood that develops patina.
We collaborate with local craftspeople — Stockholm joiners, metalworkers in Hammarby, and lighting suppliers in Solna — to keep lead times predictable and support the regional economy. Typical design fees start at SEK 45,000 for concept packages; full turnkey projects average SEK 285,000 excluding VAT.
