Bad lighting ruins fades. We design three-layer schemes calibrated for Stockholm's seasonal light — 95+ CRI at every chair, warm ambience after dark.
Lighting is the most underestimated element in barbershop design. Fluorescent tubes cast green shadows that hide uneven blends; pendant lights create glare in mirrors; dim shops feel unwelcoming at 4 PM in November. Underconge Atelier treats lighting as infrastructure, not decoration.
3000K indirect cove lighting or recessed downlights at 150–200 lux floor level. Provides base illumination without mirror glare. Dimmable to 20% for evening appointments.
4000K directional spots at 750–900 lux at client head height (1.55 m AFF). CRI 95+ minimum. Asymmetric beam to avoid hot spots on crown and neckline.
2700K brass picture lights or LED strips grazing feature walls. Creates depth and Instagram-friendly atmosphere without competing with task layer.
We specify fixtures available through Swedish distributors with stock in-country. Below are our most-specified models for Stockholm barbershops (2026 pricing excl. VAT):
| Fixture | Application | CRI | Unit Price (SEK) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Flos Architectural Aim LED | Task spot over chair | 97 | 4,850 |
| Lumenpulse Lumenbeam Small | Accent wall grazer | 95 | 3,200 |
| SG Armaturen Disc 760 | Ambient recessed | 90 | 1,680 |
| Modular Duell brass track | Flexible task rail | 96 | 890 / metre |
| Dimmer: Gira System 55 | Scene control per zone | — | 2,450 |
Colour Rendering Index measures how accurately a light source reveals skin tones and hair colour. Below CRI 90, barbers cannot reliably distinguish between a #2 and #3 guard line — leading to callbacks and client dissatisfaction. Our in-studio testing rig simulates every proposed fixture before specification. We reject any product below CRI 93 regardless of aesthetics.
Shops with south-facing storefront windows receive 14+ hours of daylight in June but only 6 hours in December. We balance artificial layers to maintain consistent task lux year-round. Automated daylight sensors (optional, SEK 8,400 per zone) reduce energy costs by an estimated 22% annually based on our Vasastan case study.
For basement locations common in Gamla Stan and Södermalm, we increase ambient layer output and specify full-spectrum panels (CRI 98, SEK 5,600 each) to compensate for zero natural light.
All packages include reflected ceiling plan, circuit schedule, lux calculation report, and supplier quotation support. Site commissioning visit (fixture aiming and dimmer programming): SEK 7,200. Contact [email protected] or +46 8 512 345 67.
